Console Terminal
Starting the Console
To start the PLATO Terminal Emulator at the console, type x.console.
This will display lesson desired
on the left screen and a keyboard layout on the right screen.
Navigating Using the Console
Note that LB
signifies the left blank key
and mapped to the [
standard keyboard key.
It is, in the console version of the emulator, the “FUNCTION” key.
RB
signifies the right blank key
and is mapped to the ]
standard keyboard key.
It is, in the console version of the emulator, the “SHIFT” key.
Therefore, BACK ([ b
) entered at the “lesson desired” prompt will take you to the “Author Mode” page.
The console is special in nearly all instances and can perform any system task.
Exiting the Console
The correct way to exit the DIS 'console' is to type, in order:

To suspend the current console session, type:
[ x
Exits the console while keeping the console program active on a control point.
kill,<jsn>. (where <jsn> is the Job Sequence Number of the Console Program)
or
drop,<jsn>.
